I'm a quirky tiny girl who likes to smile and eat pizza. And drink beer! I also like to freestyle and travel to American cities because I'm too poor to go to a different continent. This blog is about my thoughts that swim around my head like fishies.

Best Guerilla Marketing Campaigns EVER!
I love guerilla marketing campaigns. I mean, I would never have the canniness or the money to be as clever as some of these ads, but kudos to those that do!

Reasons Why I Love NJ

  1. Home to unhealthy CREATIVE foods: Greasetrucks, Rutt’s Hut, Hoagie Haven hash browns in sandwiches - the list goes on.
  2. The Shore. I will forever love the Jersey Shore no matter what MTV says. From memories of mini golfing, getting chased by seagulls, streaking into the ocean, dancing to Black Eyed Peas on rocks, fishing and catching a squid, playing the crane game and winning all the characters from Spongebob, getting my one ear pierced b.c I couldn’t afford to pierce the other one..I spent my teenage years smelling the polluted ocean.
  3. Driving in my car. Max Bemus of Say Anything summed it up: “All I need is my car and my guitar”.
  4. Which brings me to my next point: Music. So many bands have started here, and I have never seen so many people passionate about music- body, soul, etc. We live and die for music. If we had extra body parts, we would have three extra ears.
  5. Skateboarding. Maybe this isn’t akin to NJ, but I don’t think I would’ve done this if I lived somewhere else. But how else could I have survived junior high?
  6. NJ Breweries: I just found out about this, this year, and I think it’s awesome that there’s 14 in my home state. It makes for a great road trip.
  7. Road trips: The accessibility of NYC (40 mins), Philly (1 hr), Baltimore (3 hrs), DC (3.5 hrs), and Boston (4.5 hrs). Whaddup!
  8. Filipinos. Growing up in Jersey City, I can say I was part of a great Filipino community. I still go there to grab a pan de sal, halu-halu, or empanada at Red Ribbon or Philippine Breadhouse.
  9. Exploring: Whether it was surburbia- from train tracks to night time playgrounds- or New Brunswick- from 30 mile trails to a pink secret birdhouse- there has always been room to discover something new and hidden.
  10. Quintessential NJ person: creative, tough, obnoxious, blunt, proud. This is who  I am and where I come from.

Get Back in Your Book” photography project by Lissy Laricchia in which female protagonists jump back into their respective fairy tales. Pretty damn cool.

New Brunswick. I hate to admit it, but New Brunswick nights can be so beautiful. There’s something endearing about the I-don’t-give-a-shit Jersey attitude that gives New Brunswick character..and by default, myself. It’s hard sometimes to be proud of it; the attitude can often manifest itself into the stereotypes of Jersey Shore.. which I’m led to believe had some roots in my old house on Dix Street. But I had a hard night and ended up here, by the river. I thought about parking rooftop picnics and guitars, Thirsty Thursdays at the Rugby House, sipping beers outside of the Ale n Witch with indie kids and criticisms. Memories spent with strangers, acquaintances, lovers, and good friends. It wasn’t a great time, all the time, but it was a good time on pretty nights like these if you were down to explore. You had to be that kind of person to survive. For me, it never mattered what I found, because I always found something.
Fuck you New Brunswick.
I hate that you have a piece of my heart.
